Boring Browns

Boring Browns

I used a cotton swab to apply eye shadow color swatches in my notebook — it’s a handful of bland and boring browns. I have a photo from the 80′s when I wore blue eye shadow and I only had to see it once to decide not to do it again! Purple makes me look like a zombie (even though it’s always recommended to people with brown eyes — purple looks horrible on me), and green is always so tempting, yet very unflattering. I’ve never been one to match eye shadow with outfits, so I don’t have a wardrobe of colors — it’s simply the SAME thing every day: brown eyeshadow, black eyeliner, and black mascara. I’m always on the look out for the perfect brown, however, and the notebook swatches will make it easier.

Hi Janet. Love this blog. So refreshing.
Thank you for taking the time to do this, for sharing.

Hi Julie! I’m glad you visited! Did you notice the pendant in my blog profile photo? I love it. I need to get a silver chain from you . . . I think it would look better than the black one I improvised with.

Have you ever tried a smoky gray? That’s what I used to where when I wore makeup.

On another topic, what yarn store in Oklahoma City do you favor? We are moving there.

Janet, brown’s great on you, so why botch a good thing? I’m using MAC’s cross cultural. Have you ever thought about trying brown eye liner? I love it and am never going back to black…

I’m game for trying a new brown — I’ll go check out Cross Cultural. Did you know that all my brown eyeshadows were gifted by you? Seriously — ALL of them!

I do use brown eyeliner underneath my bottom lash line, but on my upper eyelid, it’s got to be black. :-)

I have a recommendation for a combination eyeliner/shadow that I bought recently that you might like (I have brown eyes, too). I got it at Sephora in the Stone color and the shadow goes on darker than shown in the photo – more dark plum than light purple. Here’s the link: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P20757&categoryId=B70

My favorite part is not having to worry about coordinating the liner and it’s also great for saving space when traveling or to throw in your purse!

i bet you would look wonderful in smokey grays & pinkish browns. =]

i think you might like these eyeshadow palettes from coastal scents (fabulous company to deal with, wonderful products, excellent quality). don’t let the lighter colors scare you off. you can use them for highlighting, layering & mixing.

the warm palette (have it, love it): http://www.coastalscents.com/cfwebstore/index.cfm/product/1871_122/88-warm-palette.cfm

the neutral palette (looks more like your style): http://www.coastalscents.com/cfwebstore/index.cfm/product/1535_122/28-piece-eye-shadow-neutral-palette.cfm

p.s. sorry, don’t know how to turn those into links. : /
