The Kitchen Sink

The Kitchen Sink :: Random Updates

:: I have a new iPhone (3gs) as of mid-April, but I haven’t fully explored all of its cool apps and features. Let me know what I have to have — which apps do you love? I already have Hipstamatic and I experimented with it a couple of weeks ago. I took a photo of the thing I was standing closest to at the time — the kitchen sink.

:: Charlie is a joy to have in our lives and our home — it’s been quite an adjustment being a new Grandma, mostly affecting the things that used to be effortless. I don’t feel comfortable posting updated photos of him, but if you’re a Flickr “friend,” that’s your best chance of seeing how cute he’s getting.

:: Knitting? Crocheting? Why, yes, I still do both — just not nearly as often. I have managed to finish a few things that I don’t have time to photograph (one of the things that used to be effortless).

:: This time last year, I was working on completing my Lizard Ridge. While I would love to get back to it, it’s moved down the list. I’ve accepted that it’s going to be a long-term project and I’m not going to feel anxious about it. Whenever I finish it will end up being the perfect time.

:: School is almost out! While this is a good thing, during the school year I have a predictable routine that helps me define and plan my weekdays. Summertime always leaves me feeling a little unstructured, so I’m trying to plan ahead this time in order to keep the boys busy and well-fed. Suggestions welcome! The 5th grader will be doing a summer reading program (or two) and the 8th grader will be in a 6-week long football camp (in addition to his plans to spend quality time with his XBox console).

:: Nail Color of the Week is going to continue for the foreseeable future. (Many of you probably noticed that I’m not always posting every week though). What nail colors would you like to see? More Pink? Some Blue? Greens? Let me know in the comments – I have some great greens I’ve not posted yet, so that will definitely be in the line-up!

First of all…great photo for a great post. I *love* this: “Whenever I finish it will end up being the perfect time.”

Don’t forget to look for the reading program forms from Borders and B&N–a little extra incentive for your reader.

I just got a new iPhone, too. A couple of my favorite apps so far are Evernote, for just capturing those quick notes of things you want to remember, and Goodreader, a pdf reader which connects to your Ravelry pattern library. There is an “I love my iPhone” group on Ravelry with a lot of good ideas.

Green, definitely! I wish I could wear nail polish but I have to keep my nails ultra short for work, and bright colors just look silly with really short nails. When I retire, I’m going to have a nice manicure all the time!

Thank you, Lorette! Do you have any knitting apps?

I too used to think bright colors would not look good with really short nails, but they do — try it on a day you’re not working!

Charlie is looking more and more handsome! Lucky grandma. I am glad that you still have had some time for your yarn. 🙂
Goodluck with keeping the boys busy.

I have an iPod Touch 4 and my favorite App is Camera+ for editing my photos and Instagram to share them. I love Hipstamatic too.
