Sally Hansen : Set the Stage

I have a Pinterest pinboard for some of my favorite nail polish looks, and referred to it on a recent trip to Target when I found Sally Hansen’s “Set the Stage” gold glitter. (Here’s the pin that initially inspired me and another pin with the same theme)

NOTE: I applied 1 coat of “Don’t Feed the Hand Models” followed by 2 coats of “Set the Stage”

When I returned to Target today, I noticed there was one remaining bottle of Sally Hansen “Set the Stage” and I bought it for one of my readers to win. Will it be you? Just share in the comments whether you like this look and please include a link to your blog (if you have one). A winner will be chosen at random.

  1. Brenda says:

Looks very cool! I’ve just started wearing polish again on my fingernails (and toenails), and your post on Beetle was an inspiration. Is there a trick to removing nail polish with glitter in it? I found it really difficult to remove compared to regular polish.

    • Janet says:

Thank you, Brenda! I also have a hard time removing glitter polishes — this one included. I think the best method is using foiled-wrapped cotton pads soaked in acetone. BUT — I typically don’t do that myself; I just use regular nail polish remover and cotton balls — it just takes more patience to get it all off.

Toenails are definitely fun to do . . . I never show mine here because of the creepy foot fetishists, but right now it’s navy blue polish and Sinful Colors “Hottie” glitter (<--a nail polish blogger's post with black nail color and "Hottie")

  2. Dawn says:

I do like this look and I will tell you why: I am a massage therapist and can’t wear nail polish very much because I am constantly washing my hands and it just peels right off. When I am feeling flashy though I can get away with the ultra glitter polish because chips and nicks don’t show up near as bad. So. . . GO GLITTER!!

    • Janet says:

Thanks Dawn! I agree that the glitter polishes are very forgiving. I don’t sweat the imperfections on the base “color” application because I know the glitter will hide them. The only thing that bothers me is a glitter that is too “bumpy” — this Sally Hansen was pretty smooth!

  3. Samantha Edwards says:

I absolutely love this look! To be honest, I would have never put this together myself. I am just not that creative I guess. I want to do this now!!!

  4. gail says:

You know I love this look!

I’ve been meaning to get a gold glitter to try it with, but haven’t had time, with my niece and nephew here. I love the glitters with chunky and fine glitter mixed together. They’re so much more interesting than just one or the other.

When you say ‘nail color of the week’ do you mean that this lasts you one whole week? If so, I’m amazed!

    • Janet says:

I do know! In fact, I pinned yours as well a few weeks ago. And I agree – the mixed glitters are the best. This one was really smooth and not bumpy, even with layers.

My Nail Color of the Week was initially intended to be weekly . . . but lately, I go several days between colors and have “bare” nails more often than not. 🙁

      • gail says:

Hee hee hee – I ended up buying this too last night. Went into Walgreens to get my niece a snack, and BAM – there it was, right inside the front door! She loved it and convinced me to buy it – she’s such an enabler!

  5. Liz says:

Squee! I love it. Don’t enter me in the drawing though because I’m going to have to buy it at the store TODAY. I wonder how it’d look over a dark purple? Like a starry sky at twilight? Maybe? Thanks for sharing!

    • Janet says:

Thank you too Liz! Did you score any yesterday? I’ve seen these at Walgreens if you weren’t successful at Target (where mine rang up for less than $2). I think it would look great over a dark purple!

  6. Kristen says:

I love that you posted this today. Last night a friend of mine came over and was sporting the glitter polish and I loved it! Hope you’re doing well. 🙂

    • Janet says:

Hi Kristen! I guess glitter is pretty hot right now — are you going to try it? All is well here and I hope you are enjoying your summer!

  7. Debbie Deatherage says:

Hey, Janet! Love the look, it makes me think kind of “Retro.” I’m on board with Liz…I’m looking for it today. I’m making mine a light aqua-woohoo! How fun! Will check out the Pinterest, too.

    • Janet says:

Thank you, Debbie! But . . . beware! You will probably buy more nail polish than you intended 🙂 Can’t wait to hear what you get!

  8. Debbie Deatherage says:

Ooh, ooh, ooh! Love the copper glitter on aqua!

  9. Suzanne says:

I love the nail polish. I love sparklie things!

  10. Emily says:

Love the gold glitter on the nude base! Like Brenda, I get frustrated with removing glitters, so I don’t wear them unless I reallllly like them. I reallllly like Set the Stage!

  11. Angela says:

That is awesome! I love the color you put under too, the look is great.

  13. Therese says:

I think it’s pretty for a special occasion, but not for everyday use.

  14. Shanna says:

I wear nail polish all the time..I love the sparkles. It looks great alone or on top of another color.

  15. Marianne says:

I love this look. I never wear nailpolish, but for a special night this would be great. I’m however not entering your contest, because 1. i’m to late and 2. I live in the Netherlands. 🙂

I do so hope that I can find “Set the Stage” on this side of the ocean.
