Kureyon 221

I don’t know how many times I re-knit this colorway, only to dig for my second skein in the same colorway to knit that one instead. Finally, I’m happy with it after cutting out a small section of neon yellow and dark purple. This colorway was the first one that I knit after my LONG Lizard Ridge sabbatical. Although I had high hopes for the pink and green shades, I was disappointed in it every time I looked at it, thus beginning the re-knitting process.
This puts me at the halfway point for my Lizard Ridge afghan. As planned, I’ll be putting away my squares until after the winter holidays and will finish the remaining squares and seam it then. I might sneak in a square or two before that, but it won’t be my focus — there are so many other things I want to work on! I’ll also have one more post in which I share all the squares laid out.

Here we go – today’s Lizard Ridge progress photo. The two that weren’t in the previous photo are the square in the top middle and the one in the bottom right – it’s amazing what a little bit of pink and red can do to brighten things up. If I can finish three more by the end of the month, I’ve met my goal.

I’m not planning actual placement of the squares until I’ve knit all 24, but today, I laid out all my washed and blocked squares. My goal is to have 12 completed squares by July 31st and I definitely think I’ll make it now. Ultimately, I want a finished Lizard Ridge by the end of the year. I’ve knit through all but two of the skeins of Kureyon I already had (plus one purchased recently) and now just need to acquire the rest — that’s the fun part!
7 July 2010: Lizard Ridge Project Page on Ravelry. When I added this photo to my project page, I noticed that I didn’t have the pink/purple one in there! So this post should have been titled 8/24ths.

As promised, I have some new Lizard Ridge photos to share.
First, the unblocked squares:

Project notes on Ravelry: Lizard Ridge
One of the best things about knitting these squares over such a long period of time is my ability to incorporate older and newer colorways. By the time it’s finished, it will be uniquely mine, as some colorways are now (sadly) discontinued. Its very nature is individuality — no two knitters will get the same stripe sequence from a skein of Kureyon. As intimidated as I was with this blanket the first time around, I feel much more in control of things now. It’s both fun and relaxing to knit these squares. And because I’m doing squares, it doesn’t feel like one of those enormous projects. I can now start and finish a square in one day or less. I love that!
